The Seagull

Synopsis:

Galeb (en. the seagull) was Yugoslav president Tito's ship that served to promote peace between East and West. This documentary essay traces its reconstruction through the testimony of its last officer. Meanwhile, the locals near the shipyard burn an effigy in a carnivallike ritual, symbolising the end of winter and the dispelling of all evil. The story of Galeb is not only that of a ship, but the story of a society that, bent on shedding the specters of its past, destroys its own ideas of unity, peace and collective productivity, the very ideals embodied by Galeb.
