He was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1967, where he graduated in Dramaturgy at the Academy of Dramatic Art. His first dramatic works appear in the early nineties. His plays, performed both in Croatia and abroad, have won numerous awards (he is a five-time winner of the «Marin Držić» Award). In 2006, together with Drazen Žarković he co-directed and wrote the script for the film «Tressette – a Story of an Island» which was internationally premiered at the 55th International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg and awarded the Ecumenical Film Award. «Tressette» won the Grand Prix at the Bucharest Film Festival, the Bergamo Film Meeting and Music Feel Award, the 2nd Prize of the Napoli Film Festival, to name but a few.«Tresette» was also screened at around 30 international festivals.In 2009, Marinković wrote and directed «Love Life of a Gentle Coward» - an independent project for the producer Alka film, which was premierely screened at the Pula Film Festival and won three Golden Arenas.

His documentary feature «Occupation, the 27th Picture» had its world premiere at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary in June 2013.
