Delta - An Affluence of Arts

Synopsis:

Delta 5 is a collective of nine artists sharing a common workshop space in the so-called Ivex building in the very centre of Rijeka. Nine people that form Delta 5 are internationally recognised and valued artists, with exhibitions in galleries in Europe, USA and China.
The precarious yet exciting questions of an artist's life and work, the inspiration of the surroundings, the everyday dynamics of sharing a space with colleagues, the contact with the audience and the uncertain future of the building and the whole area where they are situated (destined to become a new city centre by the city planners) are five key issues that the film deals with. The artists continually ask themselves and each other whether they are a collective, or just a group of people, what are their common values and what is it that links them: is it just the need for workspace, or a set of common goals and views on art and life.
The type of collaboration seen in Delta 5, where artists share some spaces while exclusively using other spaces, all the while cooperating and helping each other, seems a good model of circumventing principles of modern-day capitalism - where everything has its price and every field of human endeavour needs to be monetised, accounted for, budgeted, commercially viable and cost-effective - enjoying solidarity, altruism and common sense instead.
