08.07.2015 12:11

Liburnia Film Festival, festival of Croatian documentary film, launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo website with the aim of raising funds and introducing stimulus (financial rewards) for the most talented documentary film directors in Croatia, to support their present work and future film projects. The organizers intend to motivate the audience that participated in shaping the festival over a 13-year period to support it financially. Their support is directed towards funding the Audience Award, the Best Film Award (jury prize) and festival sculptures, created by the artist Saša Jantolek.

LFF is the only Croatian documentary film festival that takes place on the seafront, in the small port of Ičići, for the 13th time (August 25 – 29. The LFF crowdfunding campaign will be open to donations until the end of the festival. Organizers are hoping to raise $3,500, and the funds will be divided as follows:

- $1,000 for the Audience Award

- $1,000 for the Best Film Award (jury prize)

- $1,000 for Saša Jantolek's artwork – sculptures that are presented to the winner of the Audience Award and the Best Film Award, plaques for winners of special jury prize, best film from the region, best original screenplay, best film editing, cinematography and sound design, and sculptures and plaques for donors.

Igor Bajok, LFF executive director, stated: "From its beginnings, the audience, filmmakers, journalists, local community and the team of organizers had been working together in forming the LFF festival and helping it grow. Therefore, their roles in the process are often blurred. Having that in mind, and in an attempt to step up to yet another new level, we came to a conclusion that we had found the perfect way to raise funds for financial rewards".

Perks for donors include accommodation in Ičići, camping in "Opatija Autocamp" in the vicinity of festival location, presenting the audience choice award, festival T-shirts, bags, catalogues and hit documentaries distributed by the "Restart" association that, along with the "Liburnia Film Festival" association, organizes the festival.

Oliver Sertić, festival director, said: "I hope that the friends of Liburnia Film Festival and our dear filmmaker guests will help us achieve our goal to award the best documentary films of the year. As the festival promotes Croatian documentaries, it is essential that our filmmakers be awarded with direct financial funds. It is crucial that the visitors in the audience, who will be able to view the finest Croatian documentaries free of charge, five evenings in a row, award directors. The same goes for their colleagues who certainly know how much financial support means to the authors in filming new material".
