This year, LFF documentaries will not only be watched outdoors but also in Opatija's Villa Antonio. The festival is introducing a side program that will include two films of local authors, awarded documentary film that will be elaborated through a case study and a preview of an episode of the new documentary travelogue series.

Side program will be opened on Tuesday, 23 August, at 5 PM, with a festival premiere of She, The Theatre, by a Rijeka's director Marina Banićević. Central figure of the film is the first female theatre manager in the history of Croatian theatre, Mani Gotovac. We get to know her both privately and professionally through a series of conversations with members of Croatian cultural and public life, archive material from theatres in which she worked and scenes from shows „Tell me about Gorki“ and „A few imagined scenes“. What remains hidden in the film will be exposed by director Marina Banićević and film producer Saša Stanić during the conversations with the audience.

Film Claustra by Ana Golja, Helena Traub and Aleš Suk deals with forgotten archaeological heritage from late antiquity. Knowledge of employees of Opatija's association Žmergo, known for numerous projects of protection of cultural and natural heritage joined with the film knowledge of a director and editor well known to LFF's audience Aleš Suk (Marijine, Zimsko čudo). This resulted in an interesting display of parts of the greatest Roman building and military defence system of this part of Europe. Film will be shown on 24 August at 5 PM. It will be announced by director Ana Golja, and after the screening, Petra Predoević Zadković of Department of Art History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, will hold the lecture titled „Heritage of antiquity and late antiquity on Rijeka and its surroundings“.

Thursday is reserved for a case study of last year's winner of Liburnia Film Festival, film Naked Island by Tiha K. Gudac. A personal testimony of one family about politicl and historical trauma related to the political camp Goli otok will be shown at 4:30 PM. After the screening, from 6:00 PM, director Tiha K. Gudac and editor Dragan von Petrović will, through a case study, additionally deepen the story. They will discuss, among other things, reasons for the personal approach of the political-historical topic, creation of the documentary whose protagonist is no longer alive and has never testified about his Goli otok experience and about ethical dilemmas stemming from working with personal traumas of protagonists and historical crimes.

On Friday, 26.8., the same author will present herself to the audience with a preview of one of six episodes of the new documentary series Working Man's Culture. The series takes us on a journey to small communities in which working and culture meet in a specific way – on LFF, we will see the first episode which will takes us to Sali on Dugi otok. We will find out more about the importance of fishing for the area, how it inspired rock bands and how it became a part of Tovareća Mužika (Donkey Music), element of protected non-material cultural heritage of Croatia. The film will be followed by a conversation with participants of our area's cultural life.

Entry to all afternoon screenings in Villa Antonio is free.
